2013 Kansas High School Football Rankings-Week 5

These are my rankings submitted to http://www.kansasprepfootball.com in Week 5 for the Kansas statewide media poll.  All classes except 2-1A and 8-Man DI saw changes this week.

1. Bishop Carroll (4-0)

Notes: Derby moves into the #1 spot after their 45-14 win at Salina Central, and then #1 Shawnee Mission West losing to then #4 Free State, 35-14.  Free State moves up to #3 and Shawnee Mission West drops to #5.  Hutchinson moves up a spot to #2 after winning 56-32 over Newton, and Topeka jumps to #4 with a 30-20 win at Shawnee Heights.  Big game this week: #2 Hutchinson travels to Salina Stadium to take on Salina South (5A, 2-2).

5A
1. Bishop Carroll (4-0)
2. Mill Valley (4-0)
3. Kapaun-Mt. Carmel (4-0)
4. Wichita West (3-1)
5. Bishop Miege (3-1)

Notes: #1 Bishop Carroll trailed 10-0 at half, but came back to win 20-10 over Wichita West.  With the impressive performance, Wichita West moves into my top 5 at #4.  Blue Valley West (#3) and Hays (#5) both drop from my poll.  BV West lost to BV Northwest, 28-21 and Hays was shut out by Garden City, 35-0.  Mill Valley moves up to #2 after a 27-7 win over previously undefeated Tonganoxie and then #2 Bishop Miege’s 56-51 loss to Gardner-Edgerton.  Bishop Miege moves to #5.  Kapaun-Mt. Carmel enters the 5A poll for the first time this season after winning 20-7 over 6A Wichita Heights.  Big game this week: #4 Wichita West gets another test at 6A Wichita Heights (2-2).

4A
1. Holton (4-0)
2. Andale (4-0)
3. Baldwin (4-0)
4. Buhler (4-0)
5. Field Kindley (4-0)

Notes: #1 Holton struggled, but snuck by 3A Hiawatha, 12-10.  Andale moves to #2 after their 66-7 win at Circle and then #2 Eudora falling to Paola, 28-14.  Eudora falls out of the Top 5.  Baldwin moves up to #3, winning over Spring Hill, 45-6.  Buhler jumps to #4 after a 35-0 shut out of McPherson.  Coffeyville-Field Kindley moves into the poll at #5 for the first time after winning over Fort Scott, 27-21 to stay unbeaten.  Big game this week: #5 Field Kindley looks to stay unbeaten at home against Chanute (3-1).

3A
1. Silver Lake (4-0)
2. Beloit (4-0)
3. Conway Springs (4-0)
4. Scott City (3-1)
5. Phillipsburg (4-0)

Notes: The 3A poll changes for the first time in 2013.  #1 Silver Lake stays put after a 33-7 win over Rock Creek.  Beloit moves to #2 after a 56-44 win over previously unbeaten Sacred Heart and Scott City’s loss to 4A Ulysses, 25-6.  Scott City moves to #4 after having their 17 game win streak snapped.  Conway Springs moves to #3 with a 35-6 win at Cheney and then #3 Garden Plain’s loss to Wichita Trinity, 47-26.  Garden Plain drops from the poll, and Phillipsburg enters for the first time after their big 43-18 win over Smith Center.  Big game this week: #3 Conway Springs gets their shot at Wichita-Trinity (4A, 4-0) in Wichita.

2-1A
1. Centralia (4-0)
2. LaCrosse (4-0)
3. Meade (3-1)
4. Lyndon (4-0)
5. Oakley (3-1)

Notes: No changes in 2-1A this week as stated before.  #1 Centralia crushed Onaga 64-7.  #2 LaCrosse beat Plainville, 40-8.  #3 Meade beat Cimarron, 48-6.  #4 Lyndon won over Council Grove, 62-32.  #5 Oakley shut out Syracuse, 72-0.  Big game this week: All five teams should be heavy favorites this week.

8-Man DI
1. Madison (4-0)
2. Solomon (4-0)
3. Osborne (4-0)
4. Atwood (4-0)
5. Kiowa County (4-0)

Notes: #1 Madison shut out Flinthills, 48-0.  #2 Solomon won big over Sylvan-Lucas, 72-20.  #3 Osborne picked up an impressive 58-12 win at Wakefield.  #4 Atwood cruised past Quinter, 46-0.  #5 Kiowa County beat Kinsley, 56-6.  Big game this week: #5 Kiowa County hosts South Central (4-0) in a District game in Greensburg.

8-Man DII
1. Baileyville B&B (3-1)
2. Hanover (3-0)
3. St. John’s/Tipton (4-0)
4. Sharon Springs (4-0)
5. Thunder Ridge (3-1)

Notes: #1 Baileyville B&B beat Caldwell 66-20 in Hope.  #2 Hanover was idle.  St. John’s/Tipton and Thunder Ridge swap spots after the Blujays beat the Longhorns in an impressive 42-38 win.  Sharon Springs stays at #4 after their 40-0 win over Cheylin.  Big game this week: #2 Hanover takes on #4 Sharon Springs in Natoma on Saturday.
