2018 Kansas High School Football Rankings-Week 5

Believe it or not, the high school football regular season is now halfway finished in the state of Kansas.  Here are my updated rankings in the middle of the season.

Notes: #1 Derby picked up a 24-6 win at then 5A #2 Bishop Carroll.  Free State moves to #2 after a 35-14 win over Shawnee Mission West.  Despite a 48-12 loss to Columbine (CO), I’m only dropping Olathe North one spot since it was an out of state loss.  #4 Gardner-Edgerton won over Olathe East 27-21.  #5 Manhattan rolled to a 44-7 win over previously unbeaten Washburn Rural in Topeka. Big game in Week 5: Tough to find one this week as all five teams will be favorites.

Notes: #1 Wichita Northwest won 56-32 at Wichita West.  St. Thomas Aquinas moves up to #2 after a 24-13 win over then #5 Mill Valley.  Mill Valley drops from the poll.  Bishop Carroll lost to 6A #1 Derby 24-6, but despite their 2-2 record I’m dropping them to #3.  Both of their losses are to #1 teams after a one-point loss in the first week to Wichita Northwest.  #4 Kapaun-Mt. Carmel won 33-26 at Andover.  Maize moves in at #5 after a 45-0 shutout of Newton. Big game in Week 5: #1 Wichita Northwest hosts #4 Kapaun-Mt. Carmel Friday night.

Notes: The 4A top five stays the same this week. #1 Bishop Miege cruised to a 45-0 shutout at St. James Academy. #2 Goddard won 12-3 in their city rivalry game at Goddard-Eisenhower. #3 Pittsburg slipped past Fort Scott 17-14. #4 McPherson crushed Abilene 62-6. #5 Paola picked up a 35-0 shutout at Spring Hill.  Big game in Week 5: #2 Goddard hosts 5A #5 Maize on Friday night.

Notes: No changes in 3A this week.  #1 Andale blasted Haven in a 65-0 shutout. #2 Sabetha handled Marysville 36-12 in a rematch of the 2017 3A state title game. #3 Scott City still has yet to allow a point this season, shutting out Ulysses 47-0.  #4 Pratt shut out Larned, 55-0.  #5 Perry-Lecompton beat Wellsville 52-18. Big game in Week 5: Tough to find a game where any of the top five teams could fall this week.

Notes: 2A stays the same heading into Week 5.  #1 Phillipsburg rolled to a 56-20 win at Norton.  #2 Conway Springs won 22-8 over Hutchinson-Trinity.  #3 Silver Lake crushed McLouth 56-6.  #4 Garden Plain won 42-12 at Remington.  #5 Chaparral beat Wichita Independent 62-14. Big game in Week 5: All five teams will be heavy favorites in 2A this week as well.

Notes: #1 Smith Center won 21-10 at then #5 Plainville.  The Cardinals fall from the poll.  Elkhart moves up to #2 after a 54-0 shutout win at Clayton (NM).  Olpe enters the poll at #3 after a 20-18 win over then #3 Jackson Heights.  The Cobras fall from the poll.  Centralia is back in at #4 after a 20-0 shutout victory over then #2 Pittsburg-Colgan.  The Panthers fall to #5.  Big games in Week 5: #4 Centralia hosts 3-1 Troy in a Twin Valley League matchup.

Notes: 8-Man DI stays the same this week.  #1 Hoxie won 36-20 over previously unbeaten Leoti.  #2 Central Plains handed Little River their first loss with a 46-0 shutout.  #3 Hodgeman County won 62-12 over then unbeaten Kiowa County.  #4 Clifton-Clyde cruised to a 64-14 road win against Hill City.  #5 Burlingame won 72-26 at Chase County. Big games in Week 5: #1 Hoxie faces another unbeaten at 4-0 St. Francis.  #4 Clifton-Clyde faces their toughest test of the season so far when they host 3-1 Victoria on Friday night.

Notes: #1 Hanover runs their win streak to 29 as they got a victory by way of a Blue Valley-Randolph forfeit.  #2 South Barber rolled to a 54-8 road win at South Haven.  #3 Osborne won 60-14 at Sylvan-Lucas.  #4 Axtell cruised past Pike Valley 54-6.  #5 Rock Hills got back on the winning track with a 54-8 win over Linn.  Big game in Week 5: All five teams should be heavy favorites again this week.
